Your mailing address on DMV files must be your current mailing address. You cannot change your address using this transaction. You can first change your address online, and then process this transaction.
If you file a request with the US Postal Service (USPS) to forward mail there, is no guarantee that the USPS will forward all DMV documents to the new address.

Yes, but the new document will then display your previous name. You cannot change your name during this transaction. If you recently changed your name, read the instructions to change your name on DMV documents and DMV records.
You can renew your driver license/ID online if it expires within the next year or has expired within the last two years. The expiration date of your new driver license/ID and the renewal fees are not adjusted because you renew early or late.
Allow at least two weeks to receive your document by mail. A photo driver license/ID can only be delivered by mail. You cannot receive a photo document if you apply at a DMV office. If you apply at a DMV office, you receive a temporary driver license without a photo.

When you renew your driver license or ID online, you have organ donor and voter registration options. The options to enroll in the NYS Organ and Tissue Donor Registry and to register to vote are available at the end of the transaction.
The majority of licenses/IDs issued to people under age 21 expire on their 21st birthday. If your driver license/ID expires on your 21st birthday, you will automatically receive a renewal invitation in the mail between 45 and 60 days before your birthday.
If your renewal is processed 40 or fewer days before your 21st birthday, you will receive a new driver license/ID document without the words "UNDER 21". The DMV sends the new document without the "UNDER 21" legend to arrive by mail near the date of your 21st birthday.
If your renewal is processed 41 days or more before your 21st birthday, you will receive a new driver license/ID document with the words "UNDER 21".
If you renew by mail, remember that the mailing date is not the processing date.
If your driver license/ID does not expire on your 21st birthday, then near the date of your 21st birthday the DMV automatically sends a new document without the "UNDER 21" legend. If you do not automatically receive your new driver license/ID within two weeks after your birthday, please contact the DMV Call Center for assistance.
Allow at least two weeks to receive your new driver license/ID document by mail. Express mail delivery service is not available.

The DMV normally processes online transactions immediately.
If the DMV cannot immediately process your transaction, you will receive a confirmation that the DMV received the information that you entered. The DMV will then process your transaction on the next business day, and will send an e-mail message to confirm your transaction was processed.
There is no additional cost or fee to use this online transaction. You pay the same fees that you would pay if you did the same transaction by mail or at a DMV office.

You can use a debit card if the debit card was issued by MasterCard® or VISA® and the card does not require a personal identification number (PIN).
The DMV uses secure socket layering (SSL) to protect your information. The DMV encrypts your credit card information and your personal information so other Internet users cannot read the information. Read the DMV Privacy and Security Statement.
The online transaction shows you the amount of your payment before you submit your payment. If you do not submit your payment, the DMV will not charge the amount to your credit card.
After the DMV processes your payment, you will see the amount of the payment in the confirmation messages from the DMV and on your credit card statement.
You will need your Confirmation Number if you contact the DMV about your online transaction. After you select the button to submit your payment, a confirmation message will appear in your browser window. The confirmation message contains your Confirmation Number and other information about your transaction.
The confirmation message can take several seconds to appear. If the message does not appear immediately, do not select the button to submit your payment again. If you select the button more than one time, you can receive an error message.
When the confirmation message appears in your browser window, write your Confirmation Number on a piece of paper. Do not try to print or to reload the web page in your browser window. Some browsers will erase the information from the web page if you try to print or to reload the page, and you can lose your transaction information.
After you submit your payment, you will receive an e-mail message that includes your Confirmation Number.
