Office Hours on Holidays

If the word "NYSDMV" appears in the address of a DMV office, that office is closed on official State holidays. (The State can observe the holiday on a day that is not the same as the calendar date of the holiday.) The official State holidays are:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • President's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving day
  • Christmas day

These offices are open on Election Day and on all weekdays. The NYSDMV offices are normally open on the weekday before or after a holiday. For example, the offices are open on Christmas Eve if that day is a weekday. Read the list to determine if an office has a different schedule.

Some county DMV offices are open on some State holidays. Some county offices also are closed on days that are not State holidays (for example, Election Day, or the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas). Contact a specific office to get the office hours for these holidays.
