Renew

All business registrations and inspection station licenses are valid for 2 years. You can renew if the facility certificate or inspection station license expires within 60 days or if the facility certificate or inspection Station license expired within the last 6 months.

If an owner, partner, or officer of the company that owns or operates the facility has a felony or misdemeanor conviction or forfeit since the last facility certificate renewal, complete the Facility Renewal Application (VS-2) and send it to the address below.

Renew a business license or registration online

 

By Mail

When the expiration of your license or registration is near, DMV will send you a Facility Renewal Application (VS-2). Complete the application and send it with a check for your renewal fee to the address below.

If you do not receive your application, call the Office of Vehicle Safety and Clean Air at 518-474-0919.

Amend or Replace

To amend (change) a license or registration or get a replacement (duplicate) document for your business, complete and mail the Request for Business Amendment / Duplicate Certificate (PDF) (MV-253G) to the address below.

You will receive a replacement document by mail in approximately 5 to 7 business days. DMV cannot fax a copy to you.

Change of Address

To report a change of address for your business, complete the following forms with your new address:

Send the forms to DMV at the address below. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for DMV to process your application. Note: You cannot renew online if your business address has changed but you have not updated the address with DMV. 

Update Records

If you open a new location, change a location or update officers, call DMV at (518) 474-0919. Business owners that open or change a location must also

  • send a copy of their current Sales Tax Certificate of Authority
  • get proof of zoning from the zoning board of their local government

Mail these documents to the address below.

 

Guidance for Repair Shops

In addition to the items listed above, repair shops that change location or open a new location must also provide a Certificate of Occupancy, local license, or town letter as proof of zoning approval. If the new location was previously registered as a repair shop, provide the Facility Number or name of that shop. DMV may accept this as proof of zoning.
