Information on Stretch Limousine Operators

New York State law requires DMV to maintain a webpage with information about motor carriers that operate altered motor vehicles, also called “stretch limousines." The Stretch Limousine Operator Information document contains data submitted by motor carriers that meet the following criteria:

  1. The motor carrier operates motor vehicles that have been altered (since the original manufacture) to add seating capacity by way of an extended chassis, lengthened wheelbase, or an elongated seating area, or, in the case of trucks, were altered to transport passengers; and,
  2. The motor carrier operates vehicles that are now designed to carry 9 or more passengers, including the driver; and,
  3. The motor carrier operates vehicles according to the operating authority issued by the New York State Commissioner of Transportation.
  4. Before engaging in the transportation of passengers, all motor carriers are required by law to present a pre-trip safety briefing. You can see the briefing information on the Safe Limo NY page.

If you know of a motor carrier that operates stretch limousines and is not listed in this report, please contact the Limo Safety Unit.

Traveling in a Stretch Limousine

Before chartering a stretched or altered limousine, consumers should verify various information about both the limousine company and the driver. New York State law requires all motor carriers to present a pre-trip safety briefing to all passengers before a trip.

Please visit Safe Limo NY for the briefing materials and motor carrier operator information..
