Sign Language Interpreter Request
At State-Operated Offices
All New York State DMV offices now utilize virtual remote interpreting (VRI) for customers who need sign language interpreting services. If you require a sign language interpreter, please notify DMV office staff upon your arrival at the office. No appointment or advanced notice is required to access this service.
If you choose an in-person sign language interpreter, DMV office staff will assist you in submitting your request. DMV requires at least 14 days notice to allow time to schedule an in-person sign language interpreter.
If you are a third party driving school or other institution that administers one or more of the following:
- Pre-licensing Course
- Impaired Driving Program
- AARP Smart Driver Course
- Driver Improvement Program
- Driver Awareness Training
- Driver Safety or Defensive Driving Course
and you need to request a sign language interpreter for a deaf or hard-of-hearing customer enrolled in a course, click the “Request a sign language interpreter” box below to submit your request. Please provide at least 14 days notice of any request for an in-person sign language interpreter. Delays may be longer based on interpreter availability.
