Apply for an IRP registration

Important:

The public counter at the IRB Albany Office remains closed and does not accept IRB Drop Off applications. You can apply by mail or on-line through OSCAR.

Many of the requirements to register a vehicle under the International Registration Plan are the same requirements to register other vehicles in NY State.

See these Register (and title) a vehicle or trailer pages for more information about

  • proof of ownership (normally a certificate of title in your name or a "Title Only IRP receipt" issued by a DMV office)
  • proof of insurance
  • proof of identity and date of birth
  • other standard registration requirements

Read the IRP Manual (pdf) (IRP-8) and Application Booklet for The International Registration Plan (pdf) (IRP-16) carefully before you apply for IRP registrations.
