Replace IRP registration items

To replace IRP registration items that are lost or stolen, you must apply to the International Registration Bureau (IRB).

Apply to get replacement IRP registration items by mail

To apply for replacement registration items by mail

  • complete and sign Schedule A & C (pdf) (IRP-6)
    • in Part 1, Type of Application Requested, check the box or boxes for "DUPLICATE CAB CARD" and/or "REPLACEMENT PLATE" and or "REPLACEMENT STICKER"
    • complete the Carrier and Fleet Information section along with Part 4 of the form, Vehicle Information For New Accounts or Additions
  • send a check or money order payable to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles for the correct amount. If both apportioned plates are lost or stolen, get form Report of Lost or Stolen Motor Vehicle Items (MV-78B) from a police agency 1

What are the fees for duplicate IRP registration items?

The fees for duplicate IRP registration items are

  • replacement apportioned vehicle plates with cab card - $27.50
  • replacement cab card and sticker- $2.50
  • replacement cab card - $2.50



What should I do with a remaining apportioned plates when I receive my new apportioned plates?

If one or both apportioned plates remain, you must send in the apportioned plate(s) and your old cab card within 30 days after you receive your new apportioned plates. Failure to return your license plates can result in suspension of your IRB account. The IRB will issue new apportioned plates that have a different number, along with a new matching cab card. You cannot request apportioned plates with the same number you had before.

What should I do if my apportioned plates are lost or stolen?

If both apportioned plates are lost or stolen, get form Report of Lost or Stolen Motor Vehicle Items (MV-78B) from a police agency. Also get form MV-78B if your items were lost because of a crime. Your items will be replaced at no fee if form MV-78B shows the items were lost because of a crime.
