MyDMV offers you personalized and secure online services. You do not need to mail in forms or visit a local DMV office. With MyDMV you can: 

• Change your address
• Check your license status (driving privilege)
• Check your registration information
• Order your driving record (abstract)

You can complete all other online services without signing into MyDMV, including

Renew your license or non-driver ID

Replace your license or non-driver ID

Renew your registration

If you already have an NY.gov account that you use for other NY.gov services, you will need to add your DMV information to your account to access MyDMV. If you cannot remember the password for your NY.gov account, you can use the self-service password reminder tool. If you believe you may have a username but do not remember it you can use the self-service tools on the NY.gov homepage.

Step 1: Go to the "Welcome to MyDMV" homepage and click "Sign In".

Step 2: Enter your NY.gov password and username.

Step 3: Enter the required personal information to link your NY.gov ID with your MyDMV account. Your information must match what we currently have on record for you. You will need:

• the 9-digit DMV ID number from your most recent New York State driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID (see sample documents) - if you never had a New York State license, permit or non-driver ID, you cannot register for MyDMV.
• your date of birth

Sign Up for MyDMV

The DMV uses NY.gov ID to allow access to MyDMV. NY.gov ID gives you access to many different New York State online services with a single username and password. If you do not already have an NY.gov ID you use for other New York State transactions and services, you must set one up before you can access MyDMV.

Set Up an NY.gov Account

Step 1: Go to the "Welcome to MyDMV" homepage and click "Sign In"

Step 2: Click “Create an Account”. Select that you would like to create a personal account.

Step 3: To set up your NY.gov account, you will need to enter your:

• name
• email address
• address

You will also need to create a username. Your username can be a combination of

• letters (a,b,c)
• numbers (1,2,3)
• period ( . )
• at ( @ )
• dash ( - )
• underscore ( _ )

Step 4: Open the email we send you with directions on how to finish setting up your account.

Step 5: Create a permanent password and security questions/answers (Shared Secrets).

Add MyDMV to your NY.gov Account

Step 6: On the NY.gov landing page, select the MyDMV button.

Step 7: Enter your personal information to sign up for MyDMV. You will need:

• the 9-digit DMV ID Number and 8-or 10-digit Document number from your most recently issued New York State driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID (see sample documents) - if you never had a New York State license, permit or non-driver ID, you cannot register for MyDMV.
• the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number.
• your date of birth.
• the ZIP code currently on file with the DMV (if you moved can update your address information after you log in).

Sign Up for MyDMV
