Over 50 Custom Plate Designs Recognize Veterans and the Military
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles today reminded New Yorkers of the over 50 custom license plate designs that recognize veterans and the military.
“We are proud of the veterans in our state and across the nation,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “We celebrate the service and sacrifice that these men and women have made on behalf of our country.”
In addition to plates commemorating each of the branches of the military, customers have the option of purchasing plates that reflect being part of the Reserve of any of those branches, membership in the National Guard or organizations like the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars or that they are a veteran of a specific conflict like World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam or the War on Terror.
“For 23 years I served in the United States Navy. Today I advocate daily for veterans of every military branch, but I’m still a sailor at heart,” said Joel Evans, Executive Deputy Commissioner for New York State Department of Veterans' Services. “That’s why I’m glad I have the Navy license plate from the New York State of Motor Vehicles.”
The DMV has more than 200 custom license plates representing a vast array of professions, interests and causes including the military and veteran’s plates, counties and regions of New York State, sports teams and more. Fees from some special cause plates support charities, such as the World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship Fund, Cure Childhood Cancer Research Fund, the Environmental Protection Fund and the Life Pass It on Trust Fund. Find information about and images of all of DMV’s custom license plates on the DMV website.
Custom plates may be ordered on the DMV website, by mail, or by calling the Custom Plates office at (518) 402-4838. They are also available with the International Symbol of Access (ISA) for any registrant who qualifies. Any qualifying applicant who wants a plate with the ISA on it must contact the Custom Plates office before submitting their application.
