Newly Designed DMV Website Makes it Easier to Navigate to Dozens of Online Transactions

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles today announced the launch of its redesigned and more user-friendly website. The redesign has a more intuitive interface with streamlined content to help New Yorkers seamlessly navigate to dozens of online transactions and obtain important information from the DMV. This change is part of the agency’s ongoing modernization initiative to significantly enhance customer service, to make services more efficient for customers, and to replace DMV’s aging technology.

"We are keenly aware that most New Yorkers interact with DMV, and the best way for us to connect easily is through our website,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “We revamped the look and feel of our website and upgraded to the latest version of the web platform to make sure our site is stable and easy to use. This update is just one part of the major transformation we are undergoing here at DMV, all with the ultimate goal of helping our valued customers get their business done as quickly and easily as possible.”

Key features of the new website include:

  • More intuitive and user-friendly design to help customers more easily navigate the website 
  • Updated content and information 
  • The most-up-to date content management system, which will enable DMV to display information in a more engaging way
  • Increased website security and stability 

The redesign is part of DMV’s efforts to better serve customers through its employee-driven transformation initiative. Among the key parts of that initiative is the recent introduction of New York Mobile ID (MiD), which provides New Yorkers with a highly secure digital version of a state-issued driver license, learner permit or non-driver ID on a smartphone. DMV has also begun the process of modernizing its driver and registration systems by replacing 50-plus-year-old computer systems. Over the course of this roughly four-year project, DMV will automate and vastly improve the reliability and efficiency of critical DMV services.
