Last Day of Business at Fordham Road Office September 26
New Office Open to the Public October 1
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that the Bronx District Office at 696 East Fordham Road will be closing at the end of business on September 26, to allow that office to move to a new, more modern facility that will open on the third floor of the Bronx Terminal Market at 610 Exterior Street on October 1.
“This is the latest step in DMV’s ongoing effort to provide our customers with the best possible service by making improvements in our district offices to get customers in and out as quickly as possible,” said Mark J.F. Schroeder, DMV Commissioner and Chair of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. “In addition to being a more welcoming and modern facility, the new Bronx Terminal Market location will feature an improved layout that will allow our staff to handle transactions in more efficiently.”
The new Bronx Terminal Market location was chosen in part because of its direct access to a public transportation hub, to provide better access to customers with limited transportation options, and has ample parking compared to the Fordham Road office.
The new location in the Bronx terminal Market will also house the Bronx Traffic Violation Bureau (TVB), but with more space to allow both the TVB and the DMV district office to operate at peak efficiency. The new office is also designed to address issues like overcrowding to better accommodate times of increased demand such as additional REAL ID appointments.
DMV’s goal in renovating and/or relocating its district offices is to continue to meet our mission and vision statements of safely, securing and professionally driving New Yorkers forward and to shatter perceptions of the DMV. This allows us to better serve our internal and external customer bases through modern facilities with up-to-date technology, including better queueing systems, bigger displays and improved audio systems so customers when their turn has been called. Most transactions will be able to be completed so that customers can be in and out in 30 minutes or less.
This office and other ongoing and upcoming renovations are part of the DMV’s overall transformation initiative, in which the department is modernizing its technology and streamlining its customer service options. The goal of this transformation effort is to shatter New Yorkers’ perceptions of DMV.
As part of that plan, the focus is to make the DMV less complicated for customers and employees; providing more ways for customers to interact with DMV; and make transactions and services simpler so that customers are successful the first time and do not require a repeat visit.
