DMV Wins Three Awards from American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators
NYS DMV Honored for Its Website, Social Media, and Commentary on Mobile ID
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recently won three communications awards from the American Association of Motor Vehicles (AAMVA).
The DMV’s website, newly relaunched in 2024, received both a regional and international award. The department’s Office of Communications won awards for its use of social media and an opinion piece written about the launch of New York’s Mobile ID.
“We are very proud of the work our employees do every day, and we appreciate when an organization like AAMVA honors us for that work,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “As we continue striving to transform the DMV, effective communication is the key to letting our customers know what we are doing and how we aim to make our transactions seamless, secure and convenient.”
DMV launched a redesigned and more user-friendly website in mid-August 2024. The new website combines a more intuitive interface and streamlined content to help New Yorkers seamlessly navigate to dozens of online transactions and obtain important information from the DMV.
The key features of the new website include: a more user-friendly design, which makes it easier for customers to navigate the website; updated content and information; the most up-to-date content management system, which allows DMV to display information in a more engaging way; and increased website security and stability.
The redesign is part of DMV’s ongoing modernization initiative to significantly enhance customer service, to make services more efficient for customers, and to replace DMV’s aging technology.
DMV won a regional award for its use of social media, the third time the agency has been honored in that category in recent years. DMV maintains a consistent presence on Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn.
DMV uses social media to educate the public about its operations and available services, and we use a wide array of approaches and techniques. The agency uses graphics, humor, motion graphics and video to make its social media posts lively, engaging and worth following.
The New York State DMV also received a regional award for persuasive writing for a piece Deputy Commissioner for Communications and Customer Service Lisa Koumjian wrote about the launch of New York’s Mobile ID.
Headlined “Mobile ID program is designed to strengthen privacy protections, not erode them,” the piece appeared in the Times Union, Albany’s daily newspaper.
