Media Advisory: NYS DMV Acting Commissioner Christian Jackstadt to Join Car Seat Check Event at Crossgates Mall
As part of National Seat Check Saturday and Child Passenger Safety Week, NYS Department of Motor Vehicles Acting Commissioner and Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Chair Christian Jackstadt will join a car-seat check event Saturday at Crossgates Mall.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is a sponsor of this event, along with Albany County, Capital Region Safe Kids and Crossgates. The event highlights the efforts by Governor Hochul, DMV, GTSC and other state agencies to make New York safer and more affordable. Data shows that a stunning 80 to 90 percent of child safety seats are not properly installed, and too many of those seats are also found to be improper for the child using them.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect child safety seats, make sure they are installed correctly, and assure parents and guardians they are appropriate for each child’s age, height, and weight. If a seat is found to be expired, damaged, recalled or counterfeit, guidance on safe replacements will be provided.
