DMV ENCOURAGES NEW YORKERS TO CELEBRATE EARTH WEEK BY GOING PAPERLESS WITH ELECTRONIC REMINDERS

E-Notifications Allow Customers to Receive an Email or Text When Their Registration, Inspection, License, or Non-Driver ID is Due to Expire

More Than 5 Million Customers Have Enrolled Since 2014, Saving Taxpayers More Than $2 Million

Sign up for Email or Text Reminders

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles today encouraged New Yorkers to celebrate Earth Week by signing up for paperless electronic reminders. It takes just a few minutes of your time to sign up to receive email and/or text reminders before your driver license, non-driver ID card, registration, or vehicle inspection expires.

“Signing up for paperless reminders is just one way you can do your part to help save paper and celebrate Earth Week,“ said Acting DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “Our e-notifications, which can be received via email, text, or both, can also save you from missing an important expiration date.”

DMV launched the electronic reminders initiative in February 2014. Since then, more than 5 million people have signed up, saving New York State taxpayers more than $2.1 million.

You can also sign up for a MyDMV account and save gas by skipping a trip to the DMV when you get that vehicle registration renewal notice. MyDMV allows New Yorkers to renew or replace registrations or obtain their driving record online; you can even become an organ donor or apply to register to vote.

MyDMV allows you to check the status and information on your license and registrations, and you can use it to change your address without having to visit an office or mail in a form. Learn more and sign up for a My DMV account by visiting https://dmv.ny.gov/mydmv.
