DMV LAUNCHES EXPANDED ONLINE GUIDE TO HELP IDENTIFY
WHAT IS NEEDED TO REGISTER OR TITLE A CAR

Document Guide Lets Consumers Print List of Proofs Required to Take to DMV Offices

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced the launch of an expanded document guide that helps consumers determine what proof they need to register and title a vehicle. Customers can use the guide before going to a DMV office, and it allows them to print out a list of the documents they need to bring.

Consumers can access the new title and registration document guide on the DMV’s website.

The new online guide expands on an earlier guide developed to help consumers who are planning to acquire a REAL ID or Enhanced Driver License. You can find the document guide on DMV’s website.

“Every day at DMV, we work to make it easier for consumers to access and use our services,” said Acting DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “We offer many of our services, such as renewing a registration or obtaining a title, online. This expanded guide helps our customers to be certain they have the right documents before coming to a DMV office. That not only helps save the customer time, it benefits all our customers by making transactions quicker and more efficient.”

Consumers can use the guide when they are seeking to title or register a vehicle for the first time. It also helps customers determine what documents they need to obtain from a seller when they buy a vehicle in a private sale.

The guide walks customers through steps where they will enter their information and the application will clearly identify required proofs they must have when visiting the office.
