NEW YORK STATE FAIR VISITORS CAN APPLY FOR A REAL ID, ENHANCED DRIVER LICENSE

REAL ID-Complaint Identification Will Be Required to Fly Within U.S. Starting May 3, 2023

Customers Can Use DMV Mobile Office for Online and Kiosk Transactions, Eye Tests and to Get a REAL ID or Enhanced License

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that visitors to the New York State Fair can apply for a REAL ID or Enhanced Driver License, as well as perform a variety of other tasks at a mobile New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office set up in the Center of Progress Building.

“The New York State Fair is a world-class event that attracts more than a million visitors each year from across New York State and the country,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder. “We are proud to continue our tradition of offering our customers a convenient way to conduct their business with DMV while they are there.”

“When people think about The Fair, they know it’s a showcase of New York State agriculture, food, beverage, entertainment and industry. But, what they may not realize is, this venue also provides a forum to learn about all of the great resources and services available to New Yorkers,” said State Fair Interim Director Sean Hennessey. “Fairgoers can save time by popping over to DMV’s mobile office at The Fair, and take care of a variety of tasks that maybe they’ve been putting off.”

The mobile office will be located on the Fairgrounds in the Center of Progress Building from Wednesday, August 24, through Labor Day, September 5. DMV will offer services there from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all days except Labor Day. On Labor Day, the Fair ends at 9 p.m.

At the DMV mobile office, fairgoers can learn about the New York State Fair license plate and the more than 200 custom plates available. The DMV will also assist customers with online and kiosk transactions, as well as conduct eye tests for those who need to renew their driver license or apply for a REAL ID or Enhanced License.

New Yorkers who choose to visit select DMV brick and mortar offices can now save time by getting their application for a REAL ID or Enhanced License digitally pre-screened to determine whether they have all the required paperwork and verification documents they need to successfully complete their transaction. This option is available at select offices across the state including the DMV’s Syracuse and North Syracuse locations.

After pre-screening, customers will receive an email with instructions to fix any errors and next steps. Once an application is approved, DMV will alert the customer to schedule their in-person visit at a participating office location on a date and time that is convenient for them.

Customers can also use the DMV’s REAL ID document guide that explains exactly what documents they will need to bring to DMV and creates an individualized checklist of all the documents. Beginning May 3, 2023, everyone flying in the U.S. will need a REAL ID or another form of federally accepted identification such as a U.S. Passport or Enhanced Driver License.

There will also be a mobile DMV kiosk at the Fair that will allow customers to complete nearly one dozen transactions, such as renewing or replacing their driver license or non-driver ID, or ordering a copy of their driving record. DMV staff will also assist with nearly 70 online transactions, including scheduling an office reservation or road test, address changes, and provide information on the new online permit test.
