DMV EXECUTIVE DEPUTY COMMISSONER CHRISTIAN JACKSTADT NAMED TO INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF MOTOR VEHICLE ADMINISTRATORS (AAMVA) 

Board Provides Leadership, Direction to Governmental Member Organization 

AAMVA Represents, Informs Motor Vehicle Professionals in All 50 States, Canada 

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that Executive Deputy Commissioner Christian Jackstadt was named a member of the International Board of Directors of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) at its Annual International Conference in Baltimore, Maryland last week. The 21-member board is made up of officials from across the United States and Canada and their territories who are responsible for administering and enforcing motor vehicle laws and developing transportation policies.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this position by my colleagues in the motor vehicle administration field,” said Executive Deputy Commissioner Jackstadt. “This is a great opportunity to promote New York’s significant transformation effort while helping to guide the future innovation of motor vehicle administration and highway safety nationwide. It is also an opportunity to learn what is working best in other states and jurisdictions and how we may be able to better serve our more than 15 million customers here in New York.”

Schroeder. “The AAMVA board is actively helping to shape the work of motor vehicle administrators, law enforcement and highway safety, and it is great for New Yorkers to have a voice in that process and a seat at the table.”

In his role as Executive Deputy Commissioner, Jackstadt works closely with Commissioner Schroeder and facilitates DMV’s mission of delivering essential motor vehicle and driver-related services while administering the motor vehicle laws that have been put in place to promote safety and protect consumers. He also actively works with the agency’s executive team to continue to change outdated perceptions of DMV by providing better and more simplified services. Prior to joining DMV in March 2022, Jackstadt served as Deputy Director of State Operations for the Governor’s Office, overseeing and managing the daily operations of all state agencies, authorities and public benefit corporations and working with them to streamline and provide more efficient services to the people of New York.    

AAMVA is a governmental member organization that develops model programs in motor vehicle administration, law enforcement, and highway safety. The association also serves as an information clearinghouse in these areas and acts as the international spokesperson for these interests. Representing state, provincial and territorial officials in the U.S. and Canada, its programs encourage uniformity and reciprocity across those areas. The association also serves as a liaison with other levels of government and the private sector to provide guidelines for more effective public service.

NYS DMV’s work was recently recognized by AAMVA with a PACE (Public Affairs and Consumer Education) Award in the Media Event/Press Day category for an event developed in conjunction with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) to promote motorcycle safety at a time of rising fatal crashes. The event brought together professionals and family members of motorcycle crash victims to get the word out about safety and provided a hands-on demonstration of proper safety gear. This was the second year in a row DMV has received an award in this category.
