Get email and/or text reminders

About

You can sign up to get email and/or text reminders before your driver license, non-driver ID card, registration or vehicle inspection expires.  DMV will also enroll you after you complete an online registration renewal transaction as part of a new initiative to save taxpayers more than $500,000 per yearYou can update your subscription at any time.

Commercial driver license (CDL) and commercial learner permit (CLP) holders can also sign up to get email and/or text reminders regarding the status of their medical certifications and medical variances.

If your driver license, non-driver ID, registration, inspection, medical certification or medical variance is close to expiring when you sign up, you may not get electronic reminders until the next time it’s due.

Email and text message addresses

You received an email from [email protected] and/or a text message from 22710 because you are in the DMV Electronic Reminders program. Links within the email may begin with “lnks.gd” and will direct you to official state government websites. Please do not reply to the email or text message. You will not receive a response. If you need to, see how to contact us.

Who is eligible?

To get registration renewal and inspection reminders, you must be the primary registrant (the first name listed on a registration, if the vehicle is registered to more than one person).

You won’t get reminders if your registration is not eligible to renew (for example, you can’t renew if the registration is suspended or revoked).

Will the email address I use to sign up replace any other email addresses I previously provided the DMV?

Yes. The DMV only keeps one email address for each customer.  The email address you provide to sign up for electronic reminders will replace any other email address you provided us in the past.

How to enroll but still receive a paper registration renewal reminder

You can update your electronic reminders subscription to receive email and/or text reminders as well as paper reminders by mail for your vehicle registrations.  If your vehicle registration is due to expire within the next 75 days, you will probably not receive a paper reminder.

How many emails will I receive?

The total number of emails you receive will depend on how many vehicles you have registered, in addition to the reminders for your driver license or non-driver ID card.  For each ID card, registration, and inspection, you will receive three renewal reminders, between 75 and 90 days, 45 and 60 days, and 30 and 45 days until expiration.  The first of these may seem very early, but an email failure will alert the DMV with enough time to send paper reminders instead.  If you do not renew before expiration, you will receive a notification that the ID card, registration, or inspection has expired.
