About MyDMV
MyDMV offers personalized and secure online services without the need to mail in forms or make a trip to a local DMV office. With MyDMV you can:
- Change your address
- Check your license status (driving privilege)
- Check your registration information
- Order your driving record (abstract)
You can complete all other online services without signing into MyDMV, including

Sign Up
To sign up for MyDMV you will need:
- information from your most recently issued New York State driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID (see sample documents) - if you never had a New York State license, permit or non-driver ID, you cannot register for MyDMV
- the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number
Step 1: Go to the "Welcome to MyDMV" homepage and click "Sign In"
Step 2: If you already have an NY.gov username and password, enter them on the “NY.gov ID” screen. If not, click “Create an Account” to create a new NY.gov username and password.
Your username can be a combination of
- letters (a,b,c)
- numbers (1,2,3)
- period ( . )
- at ( @ )
- dash ( - )
- underscore ( _ )
If you believe you have a username but do not remember it you can use the self-service tools on the MyDMV homepage.
Step 3: Enter the required personal information to link your NY.gov ID with your MyDMV account. Your information must match what we currently have on record for you.
Step 4: Open the email we send you with your temporary password and link to MyDMV.
Step 5: Click the "Log in to NY.gov" button and enter your username and temporary password.
Step 6: Create a permanent password and security questions/answers (Shared Secrets).
