After a DMV hearing, the DMV will send you a Notice After Hearing explaining the reasons why your business license, business registration, or inspector certification has been suspended or revoked.

Suspension or revocation period

The suspension order or the revocation order has the date that your suspension or a revocation will begin.

If your repair or body shop does not surrender the required items before the effective date of the suspension or the revocation, the period of the suspension or the revocation is extended. For example, a facility is suspended for 30 days. The facility does not surrender the certificate until 10 days after the effective date listed on the suspension order. The certificate is suspended during the 10 days and for 30 days after the facility surrenders the items.

To comply

You must surrender the certificate of registration for the repair or body shop to a regional office of the Office of Vehicle Safety Field Services or to the DMV Central Office in Albany. You must surrender these items no later than the date that your suspension or revocation will begin or pay penalties.

Appeal

If you do not agree with the decision that was made by the hearing judge, you can file an appeal. The appeal must be no more than 60 days after the date of the decision letter or notice. Submit your Appeal from DMV Hearing Determination (pdf) (AA-33A) to the DMV Appeals Board.
