Please note: You must have a reservation for all in-person DMV transactions or a scheduled Traffic Violation/Safety Hearing prior to completing this request for a sign language interpreter. In addition, your request for a sign language interpreter must be made at least two weeks prior to your reservation/hearing.
The Affirmative Action Office will respond to you in approximately one week. Response times may be longer during peak periods, holidays and summer vacations. We appreciate your patience while we work with you to schedule an interpreter to conduct your DMV business.

5-Hour Prelicensing Course:Before requesting the services of two sign language interpreters for the 5-Hour Prelicensing Course,you must schedule the class with a driving school or sponsor.
Defensive Driving Course:Before requesting the services of two sign language interpreters for the Defensive Driving Course,you must schedule the class with a driving school or sponsor.
Road Test:Before requesting the services of a sign language interpreter for the road test, you must schedule an appointment with the NYS DMV. An interpreter can assist you before and after your road test. An interpreter is not allowed in the vehicle during the driving portion of the test.
Traffic Violations Hearing:
Impaired Driver Program:Before requesting the services of two sign language interpreters for the Impaired Driver Program,you must schedule classes with a sponsoring agency.

We are pleased to provide these services and ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires that people with disabilities be provided with access to governmental public services and programs. Clients who are hard of hearing and seeking services must be provided with an effective means of communication, which includes sign language interpreter(s). The ADA also requires county and municipal governments to make their public services and programs accessible as well. You need to contact county offices directly to obtain services.
